What to expect during your Qi Men
session
A
Qi Men session begins with listening to
what is going on in your life. During this time, an assessment is made of your
physical, emotional and energetic states.
You are then invited
to lie on your back fully clothed on a massage table. Further assessments are
then made by checking your pulses and any areas of sensitivity on your body.
The appropriate
acupressure points are then held with gentle, deep finger pressure in a way
that encourages the tension to release. As you allow yourself to become mindful
of the tension, you will notice how the initial sensation quickly changes to a
deepening sense of warmth and relaxation. This is the most common experience
our clients tell us about, and many say that their relaxation lasts for days
after their session.
Qi Men
sessions last about fifty minutes, and you may wish to allow yourself some
quiet time after your session to fully appreciate your experience. The effects
of a
Qi Men session will vary from
person to person, and by the condition being addressed.
Because you will be
fully clothed during the session we recommend that you wear clothing that is
thin enough so that your therapist is able to feel the acupressure points
through the clothing. For instance
wearing light cotton trousers or sweats is infinitely preferable to wearing
denim/blue jeans, or heavy wool. You
will be provided with privacy to change garments before beginning your session
if you so desire.
We at
Qi Men may also utilize ancient
Qi Gong practices during your session. Most frequently this consists of leading you
through a guided meditation written by Taoist
Qi Gong masters many centuries ago. These meditations assist you in re-balancing your
Qi.
This process occurs while continuing to work acupressure points that are
specifically designed to balance the
Qi
in your body. We understand the power
inherent in the ancient Taoist techniques and enjoy the opportunity to share
these with our clients. However, for
most people the
Qi Gong meditations
are more effective if used during the second and subsequent sessions. If you desire this type of integrated work
please ask your therapist about the requirements for Taoist guided meditations.
For those who are
interested we offer a massage technique (Tantsu) developed by Harold Dull who
is the mastermind behind the
Watsu form of bodywork that is performed in a
large warm pool of water. Tantsu is
performed on a padded floor, is highly choreographed, takes about an hour to
perform, and is especially useful for getting to those deeper issues. Your therapist will provide you with more
information if you desire.
We also request that
our clients refrain from using personal fragrance products before their
acupressure session. Unfortunately your
favorite fragrance may linger in the air for a time after you have left the
studio and the next client may be unable to tolerate those types of chemicals.
Thank you for
understanding your potential.
